Civil Rights Claims
Our attorneys are experienced in the defense of claims brought pursuant to Section 1983 and in all aspects of police civil liability. We also defend claims of employment discrimination and claims brought pursuant to Sections 1981 and 1985.
In general, these Sections, found in Title 42 of the United States Code, prohibit the following:
- Section 1981: intentional race discrimination in contracts and at-will employment
- Section 1983: denial of federally protected rights by those acting under the authority of the state (i.e. police brutality/excessive force claims)
- Section 1985 and 1986: conspiring to deprive people of equal rights and other privileges in the employment context
